Maximising content value by building the metadata chain between content producers and viewers
A large amount of metadata is currently being discarded without understanding its value! JUMMP aims to promote interoperability for metadata and signalling information exchange. This will enable contextual navigation within live and recorded content for users of digital devices such as PVRs, games consoles, mobile phones and computers – providing value to end users and to all stakeholders in the content chain.

Member organisations are those which have signed the MoU. Non-member organisations are welcome to meetings and to make proposals but only members may vote on decisions.
The group works to formulate how a wide range of vendors and service providers can interoperate using a combination of standards.
The work of JUMMP will result in specifications for interfaces comprising data definitions, protocols and system performance criteria. These documents shall be openly available.
The use of agreed openly defined interfaces enables an open market in which vendor choice can be more readily made on the basis of performance and on the basis of optimum cost effective match to business and service requirements.
Vendors who should take part in JUMMP include all those who process content or related metadata and who need to ensure that data and content are handled consistently without error across the full length of end to end systems and data flows.
As a JUMMP participant there is no joining fee simply a commitment to abide by a simple Memorandum of Understanding. It is expected that you will contribute to the work in a number of ways. These might include defining use cases, work flows, working out system interface requirements and writing specifications. From time to time it may be valuable to conduct interoperability tests to show that the specifications are workable and will deliver the intended operational benefit.
The benefit of participation is that the market is opened up to all vendors whose products are used in the value chain. It gives service providers and system designers greater freedom and confidence to choose the most appropriate solution for their requirements. It will produce a competitive environment and this is expected to deliver high performance cost effective solutions which will enable technology advances to better to maximise value of content in evolving market conditions.
