Maximising content value by building the metadata chain between content producers and viewers
A large amount of metadata is currently being discarded without understanding its value! JUMMP aims to promote interoperability for metadata and signalling information exchange. This will enable contextual navigation within live and recorded content for users of digital devices such as PVRs, games consoles, mobile phones and computers – providing value to end users and to all stakeholders in the content chain. The JUMMP group has published its first Call for Technologies.
The first Call for Technologies (CfT) describes two important interfaces for transfer of micro-navigation metadata. JUMMP are inviting the industry to define how exchange metadata over these interfaces and join-up media playback with production. The first two interfaces defined are business-to-business (B2B) interfaces linking content production with metadata aggregators and content distribution platforms.
The deadline for responses to the CfT is Friday 18th January 2008. Download the CfT to find out the details and the procedure for submissions, and be part of defining the future of media playback.
Interested organisations should contact JUMMP at enquiries@jummp.net.
JUMMP is pleased to announce the publication of its Use Cases document
JUMMP has set out its vision of micro-navigation (navigating within content) in its Use Cases. This document defines a series of real-world examples of the benefits of joining up the metadata chain from content creation through to media players of all kinds, be they PC applications, PDRs, web video, mobile devices, etc. The Use Cases will lead on to a Call for Technologies later this year and will provide a benchmark against which the work of JUMMP can be measured.
The Use Cases have been produced in two editions. The Technical Edition is intended for engineers and those who love detail. It gives all the details of the JUMMP group's analysis of different use cases, including who would be involved and key standards. The Overview edition concentrates on describing each use case and is intended for decision makers and creatives

Joined-up PVR has now become Joined-up Metadata for Media Playback, to reflect the group's focus on enhancing content on any device that supports media playback, not only PVRs.
